Policies related to our services

Who we share your data with

The services we provide require that we receive from you upon request your unpublished manuscripts and documents. We require access to these documents for the purposes of carrying out the work you have contracted us to provide to you. We will respect your ownership of copyright of your own work, and we will not share your work with any third party without your explicit consent.

Where we send your data

If you have contracted our services, we may store your manuscript or other documents on a cloud-based server while we are in the process of working on it, but any cloud-based server we use will have two-factor authentication turned on to protect your work from being accidentally released.

How long we retain your data

If you contract our services, once we have completed the work you have contracted us for, we will hold the resultant files for 90 days. We hold the files so that if you have a problem with your email or computer within that time, we can resend them to you. After this time, we will delete your files from our computers and cloud storage.

What rights you have over your data

If we are holding your manuscript or documents in our 90-day archive, you may request at any time that we delete those files ahead of schedule. You may also request that we delete your files before we have completed the work. In such an event, we will send you the work completed to date, up to the 50% point of the manuscript, i.e. the portion of the work purchased by the deposit. However, we will be unable to continue work after we have deleted your files at your request.

Policies related to the website

Who we share your data with

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments on our site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Site security

Visitor comments and emails sent through the contact form are checked through reCAPTCHA v.3, a third-party service that collects some data about you for the purposes of site security. reCAPTCHA is a Google service, and as such is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
