What is included in our editing service<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We specialise in copyediting, which is editing for errors, spelling, grammar, consistency, style, and so forth. This step can be thought of as \u2018polishing\u2019 the text. As well as our non-fiction editing service, we also have a fiction editing service<\/a>, if that is of use to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of our service, we construct a style sheet for any project over 20,000 words in length that doesn\u2019t have one provided. A style sheet is a document that is used in the editing process. It is also valuable to the author later, particularly if you are working on a series of documents or reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can edit for either UK or US English. When editing for UK English, we use New Hart\u2019s Rules<\/em>, The New Oxford Dictionary for Writers and Editors<\/em>, and the Oxford Dictionary<\/em> of English<\/em><\/a> iOS app unless requested otherwise. For US English, we use the Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition<\/a><\/em> and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary<\/a> <\/em>iOS app unless requested otherwise. While editing journal papers, if the author knows which journal they will be submitting to first, we consult the author guidelines of the journal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Price<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We don\u2019t give a fixed price for our editing service here on the website as some documents need a heavier edit than others. Instead, we evaluate the manuscript and quote for the work depending on how many hours we think it will take to complete. But as a rough guide, we aim to charge about NZ$50 an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The process for editing non-fiction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

– We receive your query.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– If we have space in our schedule, we invite you to send your document to us for evaluation. (Read our privacy policy<\/a> for more on how we handle and store your files.) We also need to know at this stage where the document will be submitted or published so that we can look at the author guidelines if applicable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– We quote you for the work. Also, for any document over 20,000 words, we will return a sample edited section to help you decide if you want to accept the quote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– If you accept the quote, we will invoice you for a 50% deposit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– We will construct a draft style sheet (if manuscript is over 20,000 words) and run it by you before finalising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– We edit the document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– We return the document and the style sheet you and invoice for the remaining balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– You may send a series of questions to us regarding the changes. Please send them all at once, as subsequent rounds of questioning will be billed at NZ$50\/hr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
